Essential Information
Personality: He is extremely principled, driven, and self-disciplined, feeling personally responsible for improving the world around him, to make his strong ideals into a reality. He is conscientious and sensible, intelligent and analytical, and although he is an extremely private person, who prefers to keep to himself, he can turn on a natural charm when the occasion calls for it. He always takes care to keep people at an arm's length, spending much time in his own head. He is highly opinionated, even hyper critical of the flaws he sees both in others and himself, and he isn't afraid to share these opinions, although he usually refrains because the situation calls for him to put up a more pleasant front. Nevertheless, he can be brutally honest and even downright harsh when dealing with those closest to him--or anyone, for that matter, who he doesn't feel he has to put up a mask around--believing that stating the truth for what it is is infinitely more important than sparing someone's feelings. He values honesty and sacrifice, and a firm readiness to do what's right. He has an overall serious disposition, although he does have a dry, sarcastic sense of humor, and he is readily willing to delay gratification, or even give it up altogether, for the sake of a higher good. More than anything, he fears becoming corrupted, and is firmly resolved to do the right thing, holding himself to exceptionally high expectations. He still harbors much resentment, but he is determined to keep it at bay, in spite of his unforgiving nature. He spends a considerable amount of time questioning right and wrong, and weighing the consequences of his actions well in advance. However, he is also fiercely loyal to and protective of those closest to him, and this can cause him to be even short-sighted at times.
Family: Thomas Sloan (father), Diana (mother), Frederick (grandfather), Katrina Sharpe (fiancée)
History: Born into a life of luxury, Vince was raised on the Upper East Side of New York City in his family's town house, and although he knew nothing of hardship during these early years, his philanthropic parents instilled in him a strong moral compass and a deep-rooted compassion for those less fortunate. When he was 8 years old, his life quickly changed on the night he witnessed the murder of his parents, during a mugging gone horribly awry, and he went to live with his grandfather in the family estate. Through his adolescent years, he grew angry and resentful toward the man who had killed his parents, and toward criminals as a whole, and he even went so far as to plot revenge on his parents' murderer when he was released from prison. To his dismay, however, the man never made it back outside, having been killed in a prison riot only a few months before his scheduled parole, and he was forced to give up on his quest for vengeance.
Determined to get a better grasp of the criminal mind and to regain some sense of purpose in his life, Vince dropped out of college and went off on his own, wandering to remote regions, where he could dwell anonymously and infiltrate several criminal organizations undetected. During his travels, however, he encountered not only criminals, but many things he could not quite explain, and when he returned home a few years later, he had a clear path in mind. He was resolved to uncover the truth behind what he had seen, a truth which he was certain the government must be hiding from its citizens. In order to return truth and justice to America, both of which seemed to have long since lost all meaning in the country, he set on a path to infiltrate and root out the corruption from within. He became an agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation and was stationed in Washington, D.C., where he currently resides. Although often hard-pressed by his colleagues, and even his superiors at times, he has yet to kill anyone in the line of duty, preferring to injure and capture, both out of compassion for the lives of his enemies and for fear of his own violent nature. He has devoted himself to extensive training, determined to make it so that it will never be necessary for him to take a life.
A few years before the zombie apocalypse hit, he met the woman who would later become his future fiancée, Katrina Sharpe, one unexpected evening. She had broken into his personal vault and stolen his mother's necklace, and instead of reacting angrily, or even within the parameters of the law, he was surprisingly amused by her. She was stealing from him, and he couldn't help thinking it was hilarious. He got the necklace back, of course, but as their interactions grew more frequent, his feelings for her grew as well. She brought a lightheartedness that had been absent from his life for many years, and he realized there was an unspoken and even repressed depth to her. She managed to broaden the views he had long held against criminals, about their simplistic nature, and he began to open up to the possibility of redemption for law-breakers, rather than simply exacting punishment on them.
With the current rise of the supernatural, the price the public has to pay to finally learn the truth about the world that has been coexisting with their own is much steeper than he could have ever predicted. Moreover, with throngs of creatures swarming the cities, who many have come to claim as the "Undead", his firm resolution of not killing has begun to be put to the test. Death seems to be the only effective method of stopping the mindless hordes, but more than this...can it even be considered "taking a life" if the person is already dead?
