Personality: Damon can be seen as insensitive, cold and harsh, but it is all typically a front he puts up in order to hide his true feelings. He feels guilt very deeply, yet lashes out when hurt or angry. He is a highly impulsive and very clever individual, often conquering much more powerful foes due to his cunning tactics. He cares very deeply for the people closest to him, but is so afraid he'll disappoint them that he resents having to live up to any of their expectations, feeling safer if he tries to simply not care. He doesn't mind appearing as the 'bad guy' so long as it keeps those he cares for alive. He is very commanding and decisive, as well as sarcastic and witty. And beneath the cold, reckless exterior, Damon is a very conflicted, self-loathing individual who genuinely misses his humanity.

History: Damon was the first son born to Giuseppe and Lillian Salvatore. He was a rather mischievous child and then became very protective of his younger brother, Stefan. The two were inseparable throughout most of their youth, generally looking out for the well being of the other. However, in 1864, they met a young woman by named Katherine Pierce, whom Damon and his brother both fell in love with. This put the both of them at slight odds with each other. During this time, Katherine revealed herself as a vampire to Damon, who grew to be very protective of her as well. This protectiveness was called out when his father found out about her true nature and captured her. Together with Stefan, Damon attempted to free Katherine. He succeeded, but both he and his brother were shot down by their own father. They'd ingested Katherine's blood, so both woke in transition. Stefan completed the transition and insisted that his older brother do so as well, despite Damon's wishes not to follow through with it. Over the years, he and Stefan grew further and further apart, as their nature as vampires led them down different paths. Damon became reckless and careless, his regard for human life and his guilt over his own violent actions becoming less potent. He eventually returned to Mystic Falls, on bad terms with Stefan, their relationship very slowly starting to mend. He struggled with conflicting and ever-deepening feelings for Katherine's doppelganger, Elena Gilbert, but she ultimately ended up choosing him over Stefan. As Damon's relationships with each Stefan and Elena progressed, he felt the ever-increasing return of his humanity, leading him to sacrifice himself for those he cared for. dying and passing to the other side until they found a way to resurrect him. However, no sooner had they done so, than the zombie virus began to overtake the world.

Roleplay sample: Damon readied the rifle in his hands, determination on his face and ears listening for the moment to strike. He'd just shot down a swig of bourbon, one of his last bottles, and he felt the warmth seeping through pleasantly. It was all in the little things, right? Even in a world damned straight to hell. Sorta ironic how he'd come back to life to...this. Seemed resurrection of the dead was even more commonplace than it'd been before. Which was really saying something.
"Come on, you brainless bastards," he said to himself, before hearing the approach he'd been waiting for. He crinkled his nose a little. Smelled of straight death too.
