Essential Information
Personality: Perhaps his most prominent quality of all is Terry's sharp intellect. He readily acknowledges that his mind is his greatest weapon, and uses it along with his quick tongue to best those who look down on him and to get himself out of many perilous situations. He prides himself on his ability to read other people just as well as he can read the books he loves so much, and out-smarting those around him brings him tremendous satisfaction. Due to the harsh treatment he received growing up, both from his father and older sister, not to mention the society around him, he has many deep-rooted insecurities, and a compassion for the less fortunate. He cares deeply for people as a whole, but he can be ruthless and even vengeful toward those who have wronged him. He is ambitious and well-educated, while also crass and even inappropriate at times. The same mouth that can get him out of almost any situation can also get him into far more uncomfortable situations than he would like. Terry is willing to play dirty to achieve his goals, walking through life with an ingrained understanding that there is far more gray area than a simple "black and white" to morality. He has an overall genuine and cheerful attitude, preferring to remain upbeat and to make jokes, even in the most dire of circumstances. His humor can range from biting sarcasm to light, self-deprecating remarks. At his core, he is a very gentle, sensitive soul, with a longing for romance and life's simple pleasures.
Family: Titus Lyons (father), Joanne Lyons (mother), Nikolaj Lyons (brother), Cassandra Barnes (sister), Teresa Blanchard (ex-wife), Sybil Leroux (ex-wife), Richard Barnes (brother-in-law), Jeffrey and Thomas Barnes (nephews), Maria Barnes (niece)
History: Born in Los Angeles, California to Titus and Joanne Lyons, Terry's difficult birth caused the death of his mother, Titus' beloved wife, which sparked a lifetime of resentment that Terry would be forced to endure at the hands of not only his father, but his eldest sister, Cassie. His dwarfism only brought with it further disgust from the pair of them, but his older brother Nikolaj always showed a great deal of love and protectiveness toward him. For this, Terry respected and admired his big brother, coming to see him as his role-model growing up. He wanted to be just as daring, brave and, most of all, as tall as Nikolaj. However, as he grew older, he came to understand the permeability of his predicament, and he adopted a mentality of accepting himself, for all that he was, and worked toward armoring himself against those who would belittle him.
As a wealthy, socialite family, the Lyons grew up wonting for nothing, and power and prestige followed them wherever they went. Though Terry was still often ridiculed for his stature, his money was usually enough to counterbalance this, and he lived comfortably and excessively. He was exposed to the cruelties in life early on, and it brought with it a maturity beyond his years, and an understanding of people and the way the world seemed to work. Although love was something he always desired, he never seemed to have any luck in his relationships with women, and they always seemed to end swiftly and tragically. Before long, he was convinced that no woman could truly love him for who he was, whether it was because of his "grotesque" appearance or some internal quality, and so he instead resorted to the companionship of escorts. He indulged in lusting and drinking and all the carnal pleasures life might offer, often embarrassing his father with his exploits.
Such was his day-to-day life, until one fateful day, when his father entrusted him with maintaining a large portion of the family's company. It was a daunting task at first, and a part of him wondered what test his father was really giving him, but he undertook it obediently, and devoted all his time and energy into it. This was the first spark of his ambitious nature, and he realized that it filled a hole that had been in his life, giving him a sense of purpose, rather than wandering listlessly through the world. Eventually, his father revoked his position, but he'd had a taste of it, and he learned that he liked it, and this led him to open his own business: a winery. He found fulfillment in it, and most especially when it began flourishing, just to spite all of his father's misgivings about the company.
However, that was all before disaster struck. Before this apocalpyse had ravaged the land, before zombies began infesting every nook and cranny, and before they'd been forced to live in fear, desperate just to stay alive. At first, it had been him, his father, his brother and sister, and her three children, but slowly, as time wore on, their numbers diminished, one by one. Jeffrey had been the first to go, too slow to enter the safe house, dragged by a massive horde of zombies before their very eyes. They had barely escaped with their own lives. Next had been Maria. They had been low on water, near the brink of starvation, and she'd taken to drinking salt water from the sea. The dehydration this inflicted on her brought with it deliria, and eventually, she'd clawed and scratched her way free of Nikolaj's arms toward the Undead creature in front of them, convinced that it was her long-lost boyfriend. Last of the children to go had been young Thomas, who, striken with grief at the loss of his siblings, and terrified of the possibility of either being eaten alive or turned into a zombie himself, he threw himself from the side of a cliff.
Cassie did not last long after her children were gone. Pursued by a group of zombies, one of them bit her, and although they managed to get away, over the course of a few days, she began the slow, transformation process into one of the creatures. They had no choice but to resort in killing her, but not before she bit Nikolaj in the hand. Knowing what the result would be, the three remaining survivors determined there was nothing to lose in attempting to cut off the corrupted piece of flesh, to test if it would stop the infection. As luck would have it, it was enough, and although Nikolaj lost the hand, he did not lose his sense of self. Last of all was Titus, their father. They had begun traveling with a band of renegades not very different from themselves, and they ended up surrounded in an old church. Titus devised a plan, but it would cost the lives of everyone but himself and his two sons. Learning of this, Terry made attempts to stop his father, but they proved useless, and when Titus threatened to sacrifice him also, Terry took matters into his own hands and shot his father in the heart.
Terry came up with an alternate escape plan, which bought them more time, but not enough, and many perished despite his best efforts. They lost the remaining members along the way, until only he and his brother were left. Now, they are traveling alone, a one-handed man and a dwarf, resorting to whatever methods they can to stay alive.
